My name is Demarcus, but in the fishing world I go by Nate Hall. Adventures with Nate came along when I was 3 years old and my grandpa went on a fishing trip on the Kasilof River without me. When he got back, he picked me up and I grabbed him by his beard and told him he could never go on another fishing trip with out me. So the following year he took me on that same trip and called it Adventures with Nate! This is when I caught my first King Salmon at the age of 4 on the Kasilof River. From there on out every fishing adventure I have been on has been an "Adventure with Nate". As a proud lifelong Alaskan resident, I have dedicated my life to fishing. Since the age of 4, when I reeled in my first King Salmon, I have been passionate about this sport. Now, I am excited to share my knowledge and expertise with others through my own guiding business. Optimal season for target species
King Salmon
If you're looking to catch the famous hard-fighting Alaskan King Salmon, there's no better time than between mid-May and July. This is the peak season when these majestic fish are at their most abundant and energetic, offering anglers the thrill of a lifetime.
Sockeye Salmon
If you're looking to stock up on fish, June through August is the perfect time to target the abundant Sockeye Salmon running through Alaska’s rivers. Starting in June, their run overlaps with the peak King Salmon season, offering anglers the best of both worlds. By July and August, millions of Sockeye have entered the rivers, creating a fishing frenzy with plenty of opportunities to reel in these hard-fighting fish. The run slows down in September, but the action continues through late summer.
Silver Salmon
As August rolls in, the chrome silver Coho Salmon begin to mix with the Sockeye in Alaska's rivers, adding even more excitement to your fishing adventure. While the run starts off slow in early August, the action really heats up toward the end of the month. By September, you'll experience some of the most thrilling fishing of the season, with these hard-charging, bright silver salmon providing an adrenaline-packed challenge through October.
Steelhead
While our focus shifts to Steelhead in mid-September, these acrobatic, hard-fighting sea-run trout start showing up in the rivers a little earlier. During September, we often find that our silver salmon trips will also yield a steelhead or two, adding an exciting bonus to the experience. As we move into mid-September, we begin targeting Steelhead more intensively, and the fishing only gets better as fall sets in. Late September is a prime time for these fish, but October has proven to be even more productive over the years, with an average size that continues to impress. The season for chasing Steelhead extends until the cold sets in, making it a great way to cap off your fall fishing adventure with these legendary, acrobatic fish.
Rainbow Trout & Dolly Varden
Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden are resident species in Alaska’s river systems, meaning you can catch them year-round. However, if you're trophy hunting, the fall season is your best bet. From mid-August through November, these rivers offer incredible opportunities to land a world-class Rainbow or Dolly Varden. As the salmon move upstream to spawn, the river comes alive with larger, more aggressive fish, drawing in these trophy-worthy Rainbows and Dollies for a feeding frenzy. This is the time when you’re most likely to hook into a big one—so if you're after a trophy catch, fall is the season to be here.
Lake Trout (Ice fishing)
Lake Trout fishing could be the best fishing of your life! These powerful fish can grow as large as a King Salmon, and when you hook one, you're in for a battle. Armed with a 36-48" ice fishing rod, you'll experience a thrilling fight as these giants take you on long, heart-pounding runs. Just when you think you've got them near the surface, they'll make a sudden 60-foot run back to the depths, testing your patience and skill. With their fierce strength and unpredictable nature, Lake Trout are truly unique and incredibly fun to catch. If you're looking for a challenge, this is the fish to target!
Rainbows & Arctic Char (Ice fishing)
When the ice is safe, Arctic Char and Rainbow Trout fishing through the ice can be fantastic, with "first ice" often being the best time to catch them. We typically kick off the ice fishing season in December, prioritizing safety, and continue fishing through March.
While January can present more challenges due to colder temperatures and slower, more lethargic fish, the rest of the season offers great opportunities. As the ice thickens, the fishing picks up, and you can reel in some truly memorable catches.
