What do I need to bring?
As our guest, here's what you'll need to bring for a successful and comfortable fishing trip:
Fishing License: The biggest thing you'll need is your fishing license, which can be easily purchased through the ADF&G website or at any local fishing supply store.
Clothing: We recommend bringing layers and a rain jacket. You can add or remove layers as needed, and there is plenty of dry storage in the boat for your comfort.
Snacks, Lunch, and Drinks: Be sure to bring any snacks, lunches, or drinks you'd like while we’re fishing. We’ll have a dedicated cooler on board for your food and beverages to keep you refreshed throughout the day.
What time is the best time to fish?
In my experience, I prefer to be on the water by 3 AM, aiming to be one of the first boats out. The reasoning behind this is simple: fishing is often a game of timing, and by getting an early start, you can fish areas before they get crowded, increasing your chances of finding more fish willing to bite. However, there are always exceptions, especially with tides, which change at different times each day. With that said, if you prefer to sleep in, no worries! We’ve had plenty of success with later starts too. After all, this is your customizable dream Alaskan fishing trip, and we’ll tailor the timing to what works best for you.
What time of year is the best fishing?
In my opinion, the ideal time to fish in Alaska is during the last week of June and the first week of July—a two-week window that offers the most bang for your buck. If you’re limited to a 5-7 day trip, I recommend targeting the last few days of June and the first few days of July. Here’s why:
King Salmon: By the end of June, you still have a chance to catch King Salmon before the season closes in the river systems.
Sockeye Salmon: You’ll also find a solid run of Sockeye Salmon starting to come in, and it’s not uncommon to limit out during this time.
Lingcod & Halibut: Starting July 1st, Lingcod season opens, and the waters nearshore are teeming with big Halibut.
Yelloweye & Ocean Fishing: July 1st also marks the opening for Yelloweye retention, along with great fishing for Black Bass and Salmon in the ocean.
This is truly the peak time for variety and abundance, making it the best window for a well-rounded Alaskan fishing adventure.
